Gene Farris :: "Visions of the Future"
>>Farris Wheel Recordings

If I'm hearing the word on the street correctly, I'm going to buck conventional wisdom and say that the original mix of this release is the must-have track of the three outstanding mixes. Henry Miller once wrote that "If you start with the dynamite, you've got to end with a neutron bomb," and that's just what Gene Farris does. The track literally shook my speakers (and they weren't up that loud!) with a stereo OD - a blast from what sounds like a filtered trumpet that quickly gives way to an earth shaking rhythm. I want to hear this song and this mix when I walk into a club every night I go out for the rest of my life!

That's not to take anything away from the other two mixes on this release. Gene lined up two world class producers to handle duties here. Roy Davis Jr's remix wisely doesn't try to outdo the original in sheer force - it actually starts with a few sparse beats before the song kicks in - but concentrates on the melody with the gnarly keys brought up to the forefront. The Fabio Bacchini mix is a funkified new school cut-up that strips everything but the melody out of the original and adds in some fun spoken word samples and FX.
