Peven Everett :: "Can't Do Without Your Love"
Review by Sean Smith | Published December 2006 | Review Archives
I would of never thought that this guy I use to see all the time and dance alongside at Red Dog on Friday nights would grow up and become Peven Everett. This kid would be in his own zone doing his own dance and you just knew that he was feeling it on a much higher level than most of the dancers there. I first heard of Peven musically on Roy Davis Jr's "Gabriel" which later became one of the Chicago label Large's biggest sellers. After that came "Watch Them Come" with Roy Davis Jr. This was one song that was heard all over Chicago and later the world. Now in the present, Peven has become an underground star. He not only does House but also neo-soul, jazz, etc. and does it well. In this year alone he has released 5+ albums and is recording for labels all over the world. He also has also performed on T.V. on the Conan O'Brien Show.
On "Can't Do Without Your Love" Peven puts the listener in a courtroom in which he sings his case for love to the judge. Musically and lyrically he pulls this all off extremely well without one dull moment. The groove here is Latin/Cuban with touches of afrobeat. The one element that drives this song and many of his other songs is soul with feeling. His music can be categorized in many different ways but it always has and hopefully will forever have soul. This song is just music. If you do not have this in your collection I strongly urge you to get it!! It will be worth every cent.
