DJ Pap - Retrospective

Here's a great new mix sent to us by DJ Pap, right on the heels of his contribution (with Matt Kerr and Cei-Bei) to blended, our Chicago/Miami sampler. This mix takes you on a real journey, starting with a unique intro, continuing through the likes of Black Science Orchestra and concluding with one of Pap's tracks, "Don't Leave" (DJ Pap featuring Naked Soul). The full track listing is below.

Pap's no stranger to the Chicago House scene, having played since the 1980s at places like Future Shock, the Warehouse, Studio 57, Tequila Factory and more. He's also been active in the studio since the mid 1990s, releasing tracks including "So Happy" (Naked Soul Productions with Will Paris), "AFRICA" (Smooth Agent Records), Come Back Baby (Season Recordings) and many more. Pap's current production label with Ms. Nycy is Mtima Muziki; check out their myspace page for some sneak peaks at upcoming releases. If you like the mix, let him know at myspace.com/djpapakablackmamba. An earlier mix from DJ Pap, titled "Keep It Deep", is also available here.

+ Official Bio

"DJ Pap aka Black Mamba has been on the Chicago dance scene since the early eighties. He started of at an early age admiring his Brother William who gave parties in their basement, which were then were called "sets". With this knowledge, DJ Pap taught himself to spin and created his own unique way to combine disco and 80's underground music.

"In 1982, doors open for DJ Pap, which he established a weekly underground spot called Bonnie Basement on Chicago's Southside. Some considered this a smaller version of Music Box which was one of the hottest clubs in Chicago; whose resident DJ was the Legendary Ron Hardy. Spinning at countless underground parties, others promoters started to recognize Pap's underground delivery of mixing pure dance music and soulful vibes. By the end of the eighties his name was all over the city of Chicago. Continuing his career as a DJ he played at the Future Shock with Mike Winston, Warehouse with Diz, Studio 57 with Brucio, Tequila Factory and established number of guest and resident spots traveling in and out of Chicago.

"Further on in the years, DJ Pap decided to take his career in the House Music community to a new level and head in a direction towards writing and producing his own dance music. In 1995 he and his partner Will Paris started Naked Soul Production (now known as Naked Soul Chicago) with their first production, "So Happy", in 1997. Creating more sounds on other labels which hits such as "Voices of Inturi" featured on a compilation on the German Stamp Audiopharm, "AFRICA" (Smooth Agent Records), "Come Back Baby" (Season Recordings), releases on Trax Records and many more. In 2002, he came into partnership with DJ Fritz of Muzic Vision Records. Still contributing to the world of House and working on a collaboration of new projects such as the start of a new label, Mtima Muziki Recordings with his long time friend Denise, DJ Pap aka Black Mamba continues with the skills of mixing deep and soulful dance music."
