Go ahead and talk to people from world class cities - they're envious of a town in which you can hear House Music at a different venue every day of the week, from lounges to traditional nightclubs. Few understand, however, just how diverse the Chicago sound is in 2008, from deep house and disco to tracks and new school mash-ups to soulful vocals that will make your heart sing.
This March 2008, 5 Magazine will be handing out 1,000 CDs, called blended, with samples of 11 tracks representing a cross-section of the many forms of Chicago House Music as we see it night after night, 365 days per year. Producers, labels and remixers featured on the CD range from industry stalwarts like Mike Dunn and Légo to the next generation of people who are keeping the fires going.
This is not everyone making great music in Chicago. But it is everything in Chicago - or as close as you can come to covering all the flavors of House in this city, nearly 30 years into its evolution, on one CD.
Here on the website you can here samples from the tracks on blended as well as additional information on these artists. Check them out - there's definitely something here for just about anyone. -TM
