My Suitcase is So Light!

And you know why? Because warm weather means light, airy, SLUTTY clothes! Yeah! As I procrastinate-pack a few hours before my flight to Miami, I am delighted that my suitcase will make the 50lb. weight limit. Mags, cds, 5 million business cards, hair, nails, tan, check.

Sean Smith (Smooth Agent Records) is throwing a last minute party this Thursday and I agreed to help him out. For those of you going to the conference stop in and show some love. It's free!

T's Box Records, Etc.

Wednesday afternoon I have another meeting with Terry Hunter to hear the music he'll be putting out for the WMC next week. (Miami in 5 days!) The shit he has is HOT... stuff with Terisa Griffin, Glen Lewis and a remix for Leonard Part Sixx's new track. I'll be helping run his newly revived T's Box Records, and I can't wait till all his music is finally released. So for this year's music conference I'll be busy passing out the magazine, the 5 Magazine Blended CD, and Terry's new tracks (keep an eye out for them.)

I've also booked a last minute show at the Park West, so my weekend is shot. I'll be dancing for one of the contestants in the Miss Continental Plus beauty contest... Miss Continental is the biggest and most prestigious drag queen contest all over, the plus version is for the "ladies" who are on the thicker side. Thousands and thousands of dollars are spent on gowns, swimsuits, surgery and of course the talent portion of the show. The dance numbers we perform in tend to be very elaborate and showy, all with the objective to frame the queen and make her look like a thousand bucks.

Oh and Miami, here we come!!!

Tortured Weekend

Christian Urich from Tortured Soul

First Avenue club, Minneapolis

Drunk, no sleep, good times, music, clubs, drinking, airport, cabs, drinking, clubs, music, drunk, no sleep, airport, poop. That was my weekend. Oh and collecting money from clubs which is never fun. Friday evening was Amp Fiddler and Tortured Soul at the Double Door, then Tony Touch at Zentra. Tony's style reminds me of Jazzy Jeff... he plays anything and everything from House (yes he does play House) to old-school Hip-Hop to funk to soul to pop. I think the highlight of the evening was when he played Evelyn Champagne King's "Love Come Down" and had everyone singing.

My man Rees was taking me with to his gig in Minneapolis the next day, and he sternly reminded me several times that night "No afterhours!" "Of course not!" I blink. We then go to my girls Peanut and Bekah's afterhours until 10am Saturday. Vodka is seeping through my bloodstream and I can barely see. We get maybe 3 crappy hours of fake sleep and have to head out to O'Hare for our flight. I am cranky, mean and pissed at my lack of self-control. By the time we get to Minneapolis we are better, and ended up having a fantastic time. The hotel was nice, the promoters were super cool and the club (First Avenue) was awesome. We had a great time at the party and I was so proud of Rees' set, he really really rocked it. The people were very nice, save for one drunken a-hole who said some ignorant shit at the end of the night. No one says shit about Rees! (Unless it's me.) I swear if this wasn't his gig and I had to make nice I would have spit on the guy's eyeball and kicked him in his vagina. Back to the hotel for 2 hours of fake-unreal drunken sleep then go back to the airport. I'm dying.

When we get home at 11am Sunday morning, the house is a giant bathroom thanks to Luigi's deadly diarrhea from the medication. Yeah! It's a feces party and all we want to do is sleeeeeeeeeeep.

Emergency Vet

visiting Luigi at the hospital

This weekend has been really traumatic. After being back from New York only 2 days, Luigi my dog, the love of my life, had multiple seizures that entailed him going to the hospital. He has had seizures for many years, but these ones were so bad and for so long that they left half his face immobile and acting completely lobotomized. So we had to transport him from one vet to a neurologist in Northbrook for emergency care over the weekend. They had to monitor him very carefully in case he lapsed into more seizures. Monday he had an MRI to make sure he didn't have a brain tumor. The "good news" is that he is epileptic, and needs to be on meds (which I'm not happy about since they leave your dog walking around in a comatose state.) They told me for a dog his age (10 years), that is nothing short of a miracle. I picked him up Tuesday evening and though he's not quite the same yet, he is okay and I thank God for it.

Shows, Clubs and Cabs

SHOWS:
The idea and name of my new dance show came to me one caffeinated moment at Starbucks, and I can now begin the creative process in earnest. Today I watch a fantastic off-broadway show from Korea called "Jump." A martial arts comedy with tons of death-defying gymnastic stunts, dazzling tricks and some of the funniest slapstick I've seen in a long time, this show alone made my trip here worthwhile!

CLUBS:
Tuesday I check out Eman's night at Sapphire, Friday I hear Tony Humphries at the Sullivan Room then go to a party called Together in Spirit at a dance studio in Chinatown. 10am Sunday morning after lots of rest and a good brunch I head to the latter part of Shelter and the party was still going strong from the night before. I also go to see Quentin Harris at Asseteria, a long running Sunday night party with an appropriate name.

*p.s. I don't care how many times I have to say it, but I CAN'T STAND electro-House and tech-House! Blechh!!! And people are really starting to play it here. I'm sorry, this is obviously just my opinion. I like straight up, non hyphenated House. Give me vocals, SOUL, depth. I don't want to feel like a spaceship just landed.

CABDRIVERS SUCK
New York's cabs all have mini-tvs installed by the back seat now, so you can watch a fixed amount of news and information channels. At the end of your ride, you can pay with a credit card using the touch screen and the tips are calculated for you. As wonderful as this new system is, the cab drivers will try to bully you to pay with cash. One jerkoff cabbie and I got into a serious yelling match, because after the 25% tip I gave he told me to hurry up and get out of his cab! Wha? Wrong move on his part! (I won't say what I did just in case my actions will be used against me...suffice it to say the asswipe had to get out of his precious cab.)
