Rees has gotten booked for like a million gigs this past month, including 2 very successful runs at southside spots: Leo's Den on Friday and The Shop on 71st Street. Go white boy! I've taken on the unofficial role of manager/booking agent/pimp/nagging gf for him, the poor thing. Btw if you haven't checked out his latest deep House mix click here and have a listen!
This last Sunday myself and Doug Brandt (former mag contributor as well as my DJ sidekick on the 5 Mag radio shows, but is now to busy running his wonderful restaurant on Halsted called Pie Hole.) were guest judges for a dance contest. Lots of southside and westside dance crews were in effect, and Doug had a panty-screaming time checking out the underage boy scene. And since I like to set my age markers at somewhere above 23, I busied myself with giving pretty generous scores to these very raw/unpolished yet talented dancers. The announcer says "We'd like to welcome VIBE Magazine in the House! They are the premier hiphop magazine!" She meant to say 5 Magazine.
Later that night I went to Ron Carroll's birthday party at Green Dolphin and enjoyed the singing divas CeCe Peniston and Crystal Waters. I also got to tell off this little midget bitch who tried to start a fight with me. It's never good to start shit with me because firstly I have a really bad temper, and I actually get excited when I sense a fight about to start. (Most of you know I am always smiling-happy-girl-nice.) While glamorously towering over this miniscule insect with a bad mouth, I channeled my inner hoodrat and punked the shit out of her with my impressive vocabulary of bleeped out words. I also told her I could have her kicked out in a heartbeat, and I would have had I not had to run up to the stage and take pictures. Sigh...I love fighting and arguing.
Tuesday night Rees headlines at 720, and I love the fact that he lets me request almost his entire playlist. Who would put up with that? The fabulous Dave Risque actually came out...thanks for coming out Dave :)
I think I'm quitting drinking.
