Fiestas PR
So on Wednesday afternoon, the Bassment Records (a primarily hip-hop based record store) asked me to bring in a little House set to the Fiestas Puertorriquenas in Humboldt Park. I asked Bear Who? to spin and some of my dancer friends to party it up. Bear did a fabulous job, a bunch of people got up onstage (kids, a one-armed man, everybody) and it was a great party atmosphere with Househeads coming and showing love.
The one big negative about the festival was the blatant and offensive military representation, with army guys having booths galore, giant "cute" black blow-up dolls of service men, and families taking pictures alongside what is essentially a representation of billions of dollars of taxpayers' money being spent on genocide. So while Bear and the crowd wear jacking it up, the military men had the nerve to come up onstage, put up a pull-up bar, and proceed to have a pull-up contest!! "Who can do the most pull-ups???" yells the mc, and me and my dancers were like, "hells naw!" So that proceeded to go on for a long time, the music had to change, and that pretty much ended the House set. I could not believe these goons had the nerve to come up to what little time we had to present House, and do some gay ass contest. Go on with your downlow selves.

Luigi my doggie, my party buddy, got drunk on Pina Coladas just like
me. All my friends were there and we had a great old time.

Stress, Space and Real Men

Lito, me, German guest and Raw food Chris @ Ohm |
With the summer my skin is getting darker and darker, my hair blonder, and my stress levels higher. No one recognizes me from behind. The venue for my next dance show is supposed to be at our beloved home The Hothouse downtown, but they may be shutting down. So I am scrambling around looking for a backup space that is on the same caliber and vibe.
Friday at Zentra Dimitri from Paris was AMAZING. Saturday I have rehearsals for a drag queen show, then spend the rest of the afternoon making frantic phone calls. Later that night after hitting all the clubs with mags I go to Ohm and meet up with a dancer from Germany that was referred to me by a mutual dancer friend. I guess he's hitting up all the major cities (Chicago, Paris, Istanbul, etc.) to build skate ramps/bike ramps/b-boy floors/paintball fields for some big X-Games type tour his company is throwing that will be happening at the end of the year.
Sunday afternoon it's my boy Dysqo's birthday, and we all barbeque by the Wilson skate park. I then work on an interview for 4 hours and later head to Betty's to support Sean Smith's night. And get this! For ONCE... FOR FRIGGING ONCE! I didn't pay for SHIT! Oh my God! As in my friends took care of my drinks all night! I am still in shock. "What do you want to drink?" A *real man* says that shit.
*plug: We are doing a House thingy at the Bassline stage of the Puerto Rican festival this coming Wednesday from 5:30 -7pm. Bear Who will be spinning, some dancers will be repping, and we're trying to get Househeads to come through at that time. So in the midst of all the hip-hop and reggaeton hell, there will be a little oasis of House in that brief timeslot. Stalkers please don't come.

5 Mag June Party

me, Alan King, Linda Redd and Dave Risque @ The Dating Game |
Wednesday night was the June issue-release party for 5 Magazine at the
Dating Game with special guest DJ Alan King. Alan is always awesome and
you can download his special mix for us here. After that I stop by for a quick drink at the Note to meet with my pussy power girlies before leaving to take care of the sickly.
On Thursday rehearsals for my own company (Fivestar Boogie's) show "BADDEST BITCH" officially started. My stress levels are rising so I stay in and mix music, make schedules, send emails and all the other fun stuff that makes your right eye connect with your left.

Jaded

Louie Vega at the White Party in Club Langston, Brooklyn |
The last 4 days have been a non-sleeping blur. Friday night I head up to Brooklyn to hear Louie Vega spin at a White party, and it was incredibly festive and white. Saturday (or should I say Sunday morning) at 6am I head to the Shelter, and stay until the lights go on at an early 2pm. By then I was already cranky and tired having lugged my magazines all over the damn city, and I had an hour to go home and get my butt to the airport. I get back to Chicago at 10pm Sunday night, shower and change, then head over to support my boy Sean Smith's night at Betty's. I sooo wanted to stay in and crash, but a bunch of my friends were waiting on me.
After this last NY trip, I have to say that the dancers and househeads over there are uber-JADED. As in evil, mean, jealous, harboring mega-hateration. They all have incredibly fragile egos, scary-random tempers, and serious denial issues. I guess living in that city can be tough and create serious personality defects . Everyone is incredibly talented, but they will hold that talent over everyone's heads and constantly compare compare compare. I think I was better off keeping my distance than now being in the mix.

Pathetic Love Thoughts and New York Times
• Why is it that on myspace the girls say "in a relationship" and their boyfriends say "single"? I know about 5 couple friends of mine with that situation, and I think that that is so incredibly shady. Do you boys honestly try to meet other girls on crackspace? How pathetic. Be real to your girl. And you wonder why we're so jaded and untrusting.
• It's really hard getting over someone. Just when you think you're done, you miss them. No matter how many boys are doing love-monkey mating tricks in front of you. That's pathetic, isn't it?
I have been running around New York like a madman trying to get all kinds of show and mag work done, along with torturous gymnastics and House dance classes. Wednesday night I went to the dancer-heavy Soulgasm party at Sin-Sin, then after went to hear Louie Vega at Cielo. I got to meet E-Man and a whole gangload of NY DJs/dancers/producers, and they're all very open to the magazine. People are starting to know me out here, and the Chicago syndrome of people bugging me about all their production work blah-blah-blah and not letting me breathe is starting to happen here.
Thursday day Lady D interviews me for a new radio show she's doing. Later that night I check out Tommy Bones' record release party at some unknown basement place, and I didn't really enjoy myself because all the upstairs yuppies kept coming in and wrecking the vibe. So I went home, ate pizza and watched Law and Order.
