My Birthday

bday party

Sunday night I celebrated my birthday party. My actual bday is on Tuesday the 25th, but Sunday we had a celebration at Subterranean (Gene Hunt, Dysqo and Gerald) and Betty's (Sean Smith and Doc Link.) The October issue work is done so now I can relax and play. What a fantastic party it was!!!! Everyone came and showed love, people were shoving shots down my esophagus left and right, and by the end of the night we were all a hot lovely mess. This had to be one of the best birthday parties ever :)

The History of House Party @ The Congress Theater

Wow wow and wow. I witnessed History in the making with the beyond amazing History of House party held by Steve Hurley and Skip (S&S Records) at the Congress Theater this past Saturday Sept. 15th. No one thought it could be done, with tons of doomsday predictions of there being mayhem, complete disorganization, and what with tickets being sold out that the Fire Dept. was waiting to shut down the venue in a minute. I myself was worried about how this monster of a party with so many DJs, live performers and ticket holders was going to be contained. Ads were all over WGCI and 92.3, so people were skeptical about the crowd.

some of the party people dancing onstage

It was an amazing event, with thousands in attendance, the line was around the block, and once people got in they got the party of their lives. Me and my dancers got to swish right in, and the main floor looked straight up like a Madonna concert tour. The massive stage, the video screens, the lights, the giant DJ table in the center, and the throngs of people downstairs and all over the balcony just dancing and screaming. We had to just stand there and take it all in for a minute.

me and 2 of my dancers backstage

It got to be a little overwhelming trying to wear 2 hats for one big event: dancer/choreographer and magazine reporter/editor. I ran around from backstage with the performers to the party itself taking as many pictures and videos as I could. I finally got to go on with singer Javante and Steve Hurley spinning around 1am, and that 1 number we did nearly damn killed me. I'm used to performing for big crowds, but when you are on a stage that massive you have to turn "it" on from the usual 100 to 1000%, big smiles, big movements, big energy, the works. By the time I got off I wanted to puke. No time for that, had to help out with Shawn Christopher's number.

It was also a very peaceful event. No fights or barfing girls. People were allowed to dance onstage all night, and it was just an incredible vibe. To be around House music greats such as Farley, Steve Hurley, CeCe Peniston, Fast Eddie, Daryl Pandy, White Knight, Shawn Christopher, Paul Johnson and the list goes on. I'm so proud of Steve and Skip because they had a vision to unite artists and producers and DJs and dancers all for the love, and they did it!

Nonstop

With Terry Hunter and Maurice Joshua @ Circuit

I have been on a non-stop clubbing tour for 2 weeks straight with no slowing down in sight. I think I'm afraid if I actually slow down and breathe, post-show depression will settle in and I'm just not ready for that. Saturday night was the 5 Mag Sept. issue release party at the fabulous KStarke Records. Kevin the owner has bi-monthly parties there, and it's such a great atmosphere with music, drinks, food and random characters walking in and out. Leonard Part Sixx and Terry James spun, Kevin must have taken a million pictures, and me and my friends all were swigging vodka and vodka. DJ Doug Brandt came from a bougie AIDS benefit and brought like 10 fancy queens with him, and they made the party that much better.

Afterwards we stop by Mix to hear "hard" house, then go to Skip and Steve Hurley's History of House music pre-party at Circuit. Monday I finally crash into my r.i.p. party coffin.

Shows, shows and more shows

me, Ada and Lego (in the back reading 5) at a picnic

I had a gig dancing for a contestant for the Mr. Continental pageant at the Baton and Park West, and our number won the best talent award and he won the title of Mr. Continental. The 2nd BADDEST BITCH show went amazing, and we packed in the house. This whole week since has been a blur of celebration and inebriation. . My song of sadness is done, but I'm still mourning the end of all my hard work. Labor Day Monday we have a picnic at Montrose Harbor, one of the few times I get to enjoy summer.

Tuesday I continue rehearsals for the Steve Hurley/Javante set for the big History of House party at the Congress Theater next week. My dance group has also been asked to open the show, so I'm running around seeing what I can put together last minute for this very big event. I'm also helping choreograph Ricky Bradshaw and his mom Shawn Christopher's new track, so that's a total of 3 numbers I'm working on for this big party on Sept. 15th. I pray everything runs smooth.
