Weekend Roundup

Madd Soul musicians @ Zocalo

Linda Redd singing ALL NIGHT LONG

What a fun, fun weekend. Friday night we have dinner at the upscale Zocalo while listening to the musicians of Madd Soul (Lego, Louie Louie, Tommy Bradshaw and I forget the trumpeter's name...). The food was absolutely delicious, and we got to sample flights of crazy flavoured tequila. Afterwards we stop in to hear Jellybean Benitez play at the 3degrees anniversary party @ Sonotheque. We then go to the southside to party for Linda Redd's karaoke birthday party. I've never seen anyone so possessive of a microphone that she carried it all around the house with her, even inside the bathroom. Andre Hatchett and Willie Wills spun, and we had the best time ever. THEN, we go to a southside AFTERHOURS... which was the craziest one I've been to in my life. We were partying with old OLD men, as in men in their 60s and 70s, and there were Pacman and Space Invader video machines all around the place. One old guy was walking around selling bootleg dvds, but everytime he'd wheedle you to buy a movie, he'd proceed to tell you the whole story so you didn't need to buy the dvd.

After staying at the crazy southside afterhours until 12 noon, I go straight to my doctor's appointment. My eyes are spinning and my pores are reeking of alcohol, but somehow I manage not to faint when they take my blood. The nurse gave me a little blowup bus to squeeze on during the needle part, and I pretty much deflated the damn thing.

Sunday afternoon we watch the Midnite Circus performers at the Daley Plaza with 500 other screaming children, then party south at Celebrity and the Dating Game. We finish off at Betty's, and I am completely unimpressed by the halloween costumes. I usually dress up for halloween, a different costume every night of the holiday week, but I am cranky and burnt out. Monday day I buy a super expensive gown for my upcoming awards ceremony, carve pumpkins with my boyfriend while watching Sex and the City, and start an insanely complicated 500 piece puzzle I bought from the dollar store 5 years ago. I have been working nonstop, but what you are hearing is the narrative of all my procrastinating activities. Tuesday we rent a tux and buy shoes for my man, make more fliers for the November release party, make endless calls and emails and cook.

Both my brothers are flying in this weekend for my awards ceremony and I am very excited :)
