Back to Love is Coming!

The big Barbara Tucker party is coming up soon and I can't wait. She wanted to bring her 2 backup dancers/singers and put on a full show, but we could only bring her out. Regardless, everyone says that this lady can blow, and her stage presence is amazing. Cannot wait.

Rehearsals for the dance number we're doing have been underway. If you're reading this and live in Chicago, get your butt to the BACK TO LOVE party on Friday Dec. 16th. It will be at Zentra (923 W. Weed), and if you email me at czarina@5chicago.com. I can put you on the list.

See? I even plug my events to my diary.

Thanksgiving Love

The day before Thanksgiving... me and Lito went to the Generator party and had a blast!!! The music was wonderful, and so were the patrons. Some personal drama, but hey that's what makes the night fun. We then went to Lego's party at the Kinzie suites.

Thanksgiving day was Frankie Knuckles' party at Sound Bar. I don't know what it is about Frankie parties, but the VIBE is just on!!! I had the best time of my life, before I even had my first drink! I would even dare say it's the people that make the party. Don't get me wrong, Frankie was banging it for sure. Rumor has it that he stood there and greeted the first 100 people that walked into Sound Bar's doors. Wow. How's that for love?

Boom Boom Room

Lump in my throat: please go away. I was never a big fan of swallowing if you know what I mean, but this sickness/fever/cold is eating me alive. We finally got the December issue of 5 Magazine to the printer, and can all breath a (very temporary) sigh of relief.

Boom Boom Room was cool. We had a nice circle in the back room, but that slippery ass floor be killing me. A couple of clueless white girls kept walking in the middle of the circle like "woops!"

Jay-J was off the hook. Very impressive. I saw a lot of my old friends. Apparently my shirt was a big hit with everyone. I can't tell you how many random guys came up and hugged me that night.

Afterparty at my crib. No alcohol. I kept offering people cleaning supplies, but no one took me up on my generous offer.

Generator & Da House Spot

Last night was another big blur, and my sickness is back in full effect. I woke up with a baseball inside my throat, and swallowing is a timed ordeal for me. I started the night off at the Generator, my new favorite house spot. I like to get there when the place is dead but the music is hot. I talk to my bartender leather bear man Darrick over by the stairs, and he tanks me up with Bacardi 151 that'll set me up for the night.

Sonotheque was cool... what was really amazing was last night all the housers decided to come out... like all of them! If you were to go by the bathrooms you'd see a little circle (is that possible at Sonotheque?).

Da House Spot was next, jumping off course. Around 5 or so they put the place on lockdown.

Delirium

I'm sick!!! Blech. I feel like total shit, and I've been snapping at everyone that even looks at me. So much stress, what with mag stuff, rehearsals, and plain old personal drama :) I would love to do a remix of the song I did a few entries ago entitled "I hate men," but I will spare any readers from that.

Just conducted a wonderful and insightful interview with Robert Williams, owner of the old Warehouse and Music Box in Chicago. Look out for that in the December issue.

Mother Diva, stop leaving me crazy voicemail messages please.

If I see one more guy lying his ass down on the couch watching tv, I will scream. It's like they're plants growing out of the furniture...unkempt, unshaven, and just LAZY!!! Boy get your ass up!!!!

Good night. I'm delirious. House music all night long.

Southside Sundays

Southside Sundays in the house!!!!!!!!! We went to check out Celebrity Lounge... very mellow, free food (chicken and rice)... great music. The overall vibe is relaxed and friendly, the kind of place that you go to just to mellow out.

Next stop was the Jefferey Pub. DJ Jaz and guest DJ Rod.X have an amazing sound system and amazing music to go with it. This is my spot of choice to hear the music I personally like! I didn't realize Jaz was the DJ who spins all those fierce beats at the mini-balls at Homan Square (vogueing balls are in full effect on Saturdays late nights from 3am-6am on the west side y'all.)

And then to top off the night was Poorwoods for DJ Jozana's bday party. That party was jumping! For real, I used to get there around 12:30 or 1am, but when host Steve told me to get there earlier, I now see what he meant! The dance floor was packed (lots of crazy House dancers just flipping and feeling the music), and so was the whole place. There were (gasp) quite a few white folks, and no not the boy toys I usually tag along with me. Get over to this House night asap!!!

We also went to OTDL (on the down low)'s new home (from Zentra to the Generator) and heard the last of Sedrick of DC's set. This party was also off the chains, and I personally think they are better off at this place. They also had a kick ass food buffet.

Cheapo trash compacter/food lovers bulletin: go to all these spots mentioned above (except for Jefferey Pub) for free food.

Thugs & Drinks

I'm getting too old for this shit. For real, my body is breaking down! Every night I swear I will stay in, swear swear swear. And then when 8 o'clock hits, (or 4, 5, 11pm)... I'm like "damn it let's go out!!"

Monday at the Family Den was kinda cool, but there were definitely thugs up in there that did not espouse the House principles of love and friendliness. I wanted to thwack a couple of them with my magazines, but I figure me getting into a fight in a southside club might not be the best way to start the night.

Tuesday was Xippo and Four. Xippo: I love you, I really do. You are a cool spot. But your drink prices are out of control!! You are not the 90th floor of the New York Ritz Carlton... you are a cute little bar on the north side..hello!

Weekend Roundup

A frequent complaint of househeads was that there is no place to go on the weekends. Happily this is no longer the case, as can be seen by all the clubs and parties I jump around to. My boy Buzz, a bboy from Cleveland who comes to Chicago every month or so partied with me and my bro Carlos. He's the one who makes me realize that we are so lucky to have all the House that we do. Over there all they have is straight up Top 40 clubs.

Friday night: Prophouse was slamming. My girl Leean was spinning at Lava Lounge and celebrating her bday. Right next door to Lava is this small dinky bar called Nilda's that we dropped in on just for the hell of it. All Mexican, all very friendly, and all shared their tequila. Our new favorite home. Minx upstairs has a great vibe with Lego playing Red Dog favorites, and then there was Mark Farina at Zentra. There must have been 80,000 people in there, all praying to the god Mark. You literally could not move in there.

Saturday night: I finally got to check out the Generator! We got there early, around 11ish, so no one was there yet. What a beautiful space, and Dana Powell was playing the most awesome House. Then we checked out Inner Sound System's bi-weekly party at Sonoteque. My boy Izrael was throwing an afterhours at a spot on Randolph, and it was a great combo of good music, househeads, and plain old crackheads looking for a place to stay late until. The last stop was Da House Spot, which has now become Buzz's official favorite place. That is one place you can truly be free...super dark and good vibe.

Sunday: Poorwoods if the place to be! Seriously, the guest djs every week are tops, and the people are so damn friendly. Plus they can actually serve Bacardi 151 up in this bitch. If you've never had a shot of Bacardi 151, imagine putting diesel fuel into a glass and drinking it straight. Remember when you swallowed the 1st time? That's the face you make.

Endless Weekend

What a crazy crazy weekend. Friday was the 2nd anniversary of ChicagoSoundSource and launch party of their weekly residency at Minx. I really have to give it to them: that was one of the best parties I've been to in forever. The whole club was House, the vibe was on. We also hit up Dave May's party on 67th, and to end the night we were at the Kinzie suites for Eric Martin's afterhours affair.

Saturday was a birthday party at Plush, another south-side party thrown by DJ Willie Wills, and 2 late night joints: 1 by Izrael on Randolph and 1 at the Safehouse. By 8am, my nurse outfit had melted.

Sunday I was burnt out completely and swore to stay home. But nope, I dragged my butt out and me and my girl Boogie dressed as Girls Gone Wild tramps. We went to Cheez and Steve's Sunday night at Poorwoods, then heard Lady Kier at Four.

Monday was 3 degrees' Halloween party at Sonoteque, and I got to be one of the hosts. A ton of my dancer friends rolled through. We all went to Green Dolphin after, and I have never seen such a madhouse. At 3am, the line was still a block long. But we all were connected and all had our ways, and thankfully got to ditch the line and get in. Super hot, super crowded, and the bathroom scene was getting ugly. I was like, "Aw hells naw you boys ain't trying to line up in our line! And you, you trying to be all slick and cutting in line... don't even try it cause I will clock your ass in a second no problemo!!!"

I'm so glad this "weekend" is over! Tonight, I sleep!
