Happy Feet
Saw the movie Happy Feet on Sunday. This has got to be the best movie of the year for me. I've never seen anything so cute in my life! It seems that there are a certain breed of penguins who are each born with their own heartsong. They have to find that one mate out there who will like their song and become the love of their life. But the lead penguin can't sing for shit, only tapdance his butt off. So he searches high and low for his heartsong so he can find his true love. Eventually the girl he likes realizes that his heartsong is his tapdance, and they live happily ever after.
I have my heartsong, but still no one who will accept it for what it is. Someday my prince will come...

Thanksgiving Weekend
Saturday night after running around to different clubs for mag drops I go to Darkroom to hear Lego. All the usual Lego peeps are there, including my dear friends that are too numerous to mention. What a fantastic night that was. We then go to hear noise at Smart Bar. The next day I'm so guilty about all that partying I decide to start my 3 day fast early (remember that raw food detox thingy I'm doing?) Fasting and I do NOT get along, because I am an oral bitch.
Tuesday night I meet up my friends late and go to Four, which has now been resurrected by XL and Diz. There was actually a really really good crowd, and me in my no eating delirium had a great ol time.
Wednesday I'm counting down the hours to when I can eat. I have a colonic because colonics are very important. We're all full of shit.
It's the big party night, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I hit up the Dating Game (insane line out the door), Four (the return of the long disappeared Michael Ezebukwu), the art gallery party and then a loft party. The lovely English couple I met last year from Tennessee was in town and we got to party with them that night (hi guys!) My brother Lito brings his 2 stripper friends with them and they lose no time in taking off their shirts at the first sign of "heat." It's a long, long party night/day.

Thanksgiving? I spend it alone for the first time in my life since probably college. And I didn't eat. It was lovely.

Ohm
On Wednesday I attend the special press party for the new Ohm (old Red Dog.) The club is absolutely gorgeous! I especially like the upstairs, and I can see this definitely being the House spot to be at. I then run over to Cuatro, Betty's and The Note for business and slight pleasure. Thursday me and all my friends go to the Friends and Family party at Ohm, and what a great night that was! Everyone was there and we had the best time in the world. We then end the night to hear Lego spin at Four. My raw food detox is going pretty good, many moments of peace punctuated by the occasional irrational anger. (But then again I always had many of those moments.)

Work Your Body
Thursday night is my friend Frank's night and bday party at Four with CZR as headliner. They had a really nice crowd, different from the usual folks you see out at these spots. I'm hanging with a group of my friends and get a nice little surprise visit from someone who still cares about me. Thank god, because it's been a minute since I got a lower body workout! Friday night after doing club drops for the December mag, I meet up with Buzz to hear Mr. A.L.I. play at La Vida Lounge. Then I rush out early for more lower body workout. Saturday night I stop in for Latin Soul night at Cuatro, then subject myself to the most torturous noise ever heard at Smart Bar. Kaskade was playing, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what genre of electronic pain it was. One thing was for sure: all them little ex-raver kids were loving it, hearing some kind of rhythm that just did not pass my comprehension. (and I've actually heard him play soulful stuff before!) But then again there was also the fact that half the women in there if not more all wanted to jump the DJ so I guess that always clouds one's judgement.
Sunday I stop by the Silver Room for Dave Risque's bday celebration, but he hadn't arrived yet. So I go and workout some more.

Detoxing
So I started the first day of my raw food detox/cleanse. This is something me and a lot of my dancers have done, and we take the class at Karyn's Fresh Corner on North Avenue and Halsted. All raw food, all vegetarian, no dairy, lots of green shit to drink, colonics etc. It really is good for you, and I haven't done it in years. It is also a very difficult thing to do given the nightlife-style I have, where I have to walk into one big toxic poison nightclub every 5 minutes.
Monday at Boom Boom Room was relatively quiet, but all the dancers were there so that made it worthwhile. Wednesday was Cuatro, The Dating Game and The Note. By the way to all the obnoxious promoters that think that a good house night is based on numbers, think again. I am so sick of everyone being so competitive and hateful, as in "Who's night is best?" You all need to get over your egos because it's really not about that. I'd rather go to a real house night with soul and spirit than one filled with wanna-be scenesters who are really only there to pick up a hole. Or a sausage. Whatever.
Had a conversation with Steve Miggedy Maestro last night, and he talked about how he lived in New York for a year and a half to get away. I would LOVE to do that. I am miserable here, and I can't stand everyone who hounds me: haters who want to be on the cover, lecherous men, superficial friends, whining and crying ex-boyfriends, ex-boytoys who still cling on, and everything in between.
Okay so I'm in a slightly bad mood right now. But I do want to get away BAD.

Back Together Again
My good and dear friend Justin (aka Buzz) from Cleveland used to come to Chicago every few months or so to experience good music... and that boy can dance his ass off! We always used to be a little happy dance crew: him, me and my brother Lito. (yes, I'm talking to Lito again.) He had been talking about moving to Chicago for 50 years, until we finally stopped listening to him. Well lo and behold, the boy has finally moved here! So we all meet up at Zentra Friday night to hear Mark Farina and dance just like old times. It was kind of an emotional meeting, because us 3 had been so close for so long, and then we all parted ways. Now after many painful events in our lives we've come back full circle.

Halloween
Halloween night I go with some old dancer friends to the big party at Zentra. It was a wonderful night, with all 3 rooms packed with mostly slutty costumes. Wednesday I go to the Note, then a desperate afterset at this guy's studio. People looooove to talk when they're strung out, and my fake listening skills start to wear out by 6am. I try to sleep next to my designated driver girl, but someone would tap me in the shoulder and TALK.

Thursday I go to Stacy Kidd's birthday party and simultaneous video shoot at Cuatro. There are bright lights everywhere from the film crew. When I get there they're shooting the "walking into the club" scene, so a bunch of us oblige. Stacy of course walks in with 5 women, and I insisted that I walk in with 5 men behind me. It didn't quite work out that way, but hey. I then rush to my girl's night at Four, then close up at Zentra. Both of the latter places were DEAD... just us, the bartenders and the cockroaches. Halloween killed everyone.

Everyone's a Winner!
Monday evening I take an African dance class that brings my lovely knee injury back in full force, and I spend the night limping like an old lady. I then head out to the Checkerboard Lounge to be one of the judges for Chicagohouseradio's DJ battle. The judges are Farley, George Jackson, Ronda Flowers, myself, Adam Rivera and someone from B96. The 2 contestants were DJ Jes and Keith. As I told anyone who would listen to me over and over again... I HATE contests or battles of any kind... how could you possible judge or quantify art? Or talent for that matter? And who are we to say who is better??? "I think everyone is a winner!!!" I gush, but that doesn't stop the contest. Both DJs did excellent in my opinion... Jes doing a lot of quick mixing and more of the high energy stuff...Keith had more of the soulful vocal selection. They were so completely different that there was no way you could possibly pick a "winner." So as we're judging and I continue with my "They're both winners!" philosophy, Farley counterpoints with "They both didn't win!" Thus a tie.

Farley telling both contestants their faults |
We then went to a very packed Green Dolphin and I swear I will kill that asshole doorman who constantly gives everybody shit for no reason. I will chop off his left kneecap and make him swallow it whole the next time he dares give me shit. "Arman advertises with us!" I say again and again, while dummy doorman on steroids pretends to never have seen 5 Mag before.
Inside is complete pandemonium, and all I can do is walk around in a buzzed state.

me and Flava Flav @ Green Dolphin |
After 1 and a half hours sleep, I go to court Tuesday morning for my "use of cell phone while driving" ticket, drunk as hell, and yey! Cop isn't there and I'm handed my license back. I go back home and sleep the sleep of a drunken hobo.
