The big awards night was this past weekend. Friday evening there is a cocktail reception at the Philippine consulate with a massive buffet of Filipino food. My inner pig let loose its squeal and I ate 3 plates of home food while the ambassador of the Philippines gave a long speech I couldn't pay attention to. My 2 brothers from the east coast fly in and stay at nearby downtown hotels... they have taken time out of their very busy schedules to fly down here and support their sis, and that means a whole lot to me. Saturday night, the night for the Philippine Hall of Fame Awards Gala, we go to the ballroom of the downtown Hyatt Hotel: it is my brothers, my man, my play brother Lito, and my cousin and her husband. I unfortunately could not sit with them, as all the awardees sat in a long table onstage the whole night. Most of the awardees (if not all) were older than myself, and had accomplished many wonderful things in categories from science to business to politics and education, so it was a true honor to be amongst them. I received a beautiful glass trophy, which aside from the beauty of it it would make a great murder weapon. (Calm down.)

After the ceremony we all have a celebratory drink at my eldest brother's hotel, Hotel Sax. A former House of Blues Hotel, it is now completely redone like a gothic mansion, and we all had a great time drinking champagne and listening to horrible commercial B96 music. What a blessed night being with friends and loved ones :)
