It's hard to believe it's been nearly 13 years since the first edition of Mushroom Jazz (OM Records, 1997) established Mark Farina as one of House Music's most acclaimed DJs. To put those 13 years in perspective, when Mushroom Jazz Vol 1 debuted the dot-com bubble had yet to burst, the best selling album was Spice by the Spice Girls and the world knew nothing about a young White House intern named Monica Lewinsky. Now in its 6th installment, Farina's Mushroom Jazz franchise has even outlived it's genre - you hardly ever hear this downtempo sound referred to as "trip hop" anymore.Mushroom Jazz 6 was released in October 2008 (you can read my interview with him from June of last year here), and Farina is still touring behind it with upcoming dates in California, New Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and Indonesia. He returns to Chicago on October 3, 2009 at a Swing Shift event in association with Global Adrenaline at Griffin Lounge.
