Remember when the ideals of love, support and respect were synonymous with House?
Nowadays, we in Chicago have the privilege or having multiple House residencies and parties a night - a veritable buffet of northside, southside, big clubs, intimate lounges, bars, lofts, barbershops and other random spaces.
Add to the list Groove Tuesdays, the brainchild of DJ Phatman who has started this weekly event at Club 720 in hope of bringing back the principles of a true House community. He has asked the involvement of many of the crews around Chicago such as 3 Degrees, House Arrest, ChicagoSoundSource, Unified Records, Music 101, Dept. of House and 5 Magazine to name a few.
What has come to differentiate this night from many others is that along with promoting his night, he champions everyone else's party as well. If you see a flyer for his event, you will most likely see 10 other flyers next to his. "We at Vibe Movement will continue to send out our message of unity and post up all events, even if you don't support ours," he says. It is this commitment to solidarity that has made the night a huge success amongst industry and regular club-goers. And in a city where cattiness and competitiveness is more of the norm, Groove Tuesdays is a breath of fresh air.
