Numarq iDJ2
by Chris Hafner | Published December 2007 | In the Mix Archives
Numarq's revision of the popular iDJ software has a number of new features, but the most talked-about is the ability to mix two songs simultaneously from a single iPod. Revolutionary? It might not sound impressive, but an audio device that could simultaneously manipulate multiple sources from the same removable media confounded engineers for a number of years. In addition to iPods, the iDJ2 can connect to just about anything - memory sticks, external flash drives, and line inputs for CD players, turntables and a mic. The graphical user interface is both very large (good for those who can't stand to sit or crouch over a tiny console when mixing) and easy to use. The price is higher than it was for Numarq's original iDJ, but reflects the belief in the company that this product will capture more than the consumer market. In fact, a number of audio stores that need an essential musical ambiance have already flipped for this product and will probably mop up the majority of sales.
