+ Barbara Tucker + Tuccillo: "One Desire"
:: King Street
As people said about French actress Sarah Bernhardt, Barbara Tucker could probably sing the names out of a phonebook and make it an anthem. Instead, Alix Alvarez in his choice remix of Tucker + Tuccillo's "One Desire" builds a really wide hook that before you know it will have you rolling. It's a deep and dark mix that I expect will tick some people off in a 30 second browse, but the choruses follow one after another, becoming stronger and stronger in an almost biblical style. It's a welcome diversion from the usual formula of dumping a ton of bass and "praise the heavens" vocals in crafting an anthem. The mixes by Figueretas and Hideo Kobayashi are worthwhile in their own right, but Alix Alvarez's mix is the real keeper.
