Cajmere and Gene Farris: The White Label EP

Cajual Records

/

A visit to the Chicago nightlife in the early days of House gives us some very enjoyable moments. The production team of Cajmere and Gene Farris keeps those memories alive and well with another collection of goodies, the White Label EP on Cajual Records.

This current installment of reworked classics adds two more pieces to the collective work. "Coconuts" and "The Biz" are references to two Chi town party spots frequented by partygoers. ("The Biz" refers to The Bismarck Hotel in downtown Chicago that dee jay extraordinaire Lil Louis made famous.)

"Coconuts" is a retouched rendition of the '80s soul tune by R&B group Change titled "Paradise". This track is finely chopped in all of the right places. Each chop is a small element of the hit, putting emphasis on the main rhythmic concept. The You Tube video compliments the track with an in-step motion of dancers at the annual Chosen Few Picnic.

"The Biz" is Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire", again sliced perfectly to engage the ear. Each time I have played the tune, thus far, heads are inquiring about the maker and the title of the track. The You Tube video for this one is a capture of The South Shore Drill Team doing their thing at The Bud Billiken Parade. I will add that the videos make the tracks even more enjoyable because of the added efforts to the project.

The gents have scored a home run with this EP. For the lovers of House Music that enjoy a solid track every now and then, these tracks are for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
