+ DJ Jes: Forgotten Soul
:: Fresca
After a bit of a hiatus one of Chicago's most underrated talents, DJ Jes, returns with the release of a 13 track CD album on his Fresca Recordings label. Well worth the wait, Jes brings a variety of House styles to the table on this fine release including several collaborations. There are a few Hip House cuts including "I Do Believe" and "The Real Shit" with long time friend Fast Eddie as well as "Punani" with newcomer Wes Hollywood. Other appearances are by Frank Orrall (famous for his work with Poi Dog Pondering) featured here alongside Jes on the deep vocal track "Keep The Faith". "Soul Music" features a spoken word/vocal performance by XL. There is a nice remake of Shakatak's "Night Birds" entitled "The Invitation". Other mentionable tracks include "Feel'in Jazzy" (the name hits it right on the head) and "Summer Breeze" also in the same vein.
