From Oakland, California, bringing the heavyweight sound, standing well over six feet tall and captain of the underground House basketball team, DJ Mes dominates the dance floor with the Oaklandish EP. Saucy behind the decks, and masterful in the office as mastermind behind the acclaimed Guesthouse label, DJ Mes has been putting in overtime in the studio, grinding out long hours and solid tunes to show for it. Oaklandish EP is testament to the time and effort it takes to build the skills need to run'n'gun on the dance floor.
The EP tips off and makes for a Disco fast break with "Fools Gold". Steady tuff beats shuffle through Disco breaks and bass lines like a three man weave leaving the competition staggering. The tune subs in and out between a captivating string lead and a vocal that swishes through your head. In the time it takes you to hit the top of the key, the vocal will have you singing along like a newfound anthem. "Fools Gold" scores on the dance floor just like a swish from the top of the key.
In the second half, DJ Mes really puts his head in the game with "R.O.U.S." The big bottom bass in this tune is backboard shattering. Straight power forward beats run relentless up the court and deliver an assist to the Latin funk loop that goes straight to the hoop. If you like a fast paced game with lots of breaks, freaks, and tweaks that deliver to goods to move your shoes, the "R.O.U.S." is the organization for you.
For his debut on the time tested, world renowned Chicago House label Cajual, DJ Mes really turns it out. It may be his height, the kicks he wears, or the years of skill built up on the court that has led him down the path of dance floor devastation. Either way he always delivers under pressure with the Oaklandish EP and that's exactly what you want in an underground House player.
