Freaky Behaviour: Table Magic EP

So Sound Recordings

/

Freaky Behaviour has been really knockin on a lot of doors this past year and selling a lot of Tupperware. I am starting to see their name in many a place including my own kitchen, so to speak. This Leeds based duo just one upped my expectations on their new Table Magic EP on So Sound. This whole EP has a really "Chicago meets the Midlands" sound that I am totally feeling. Being a big Inland Knights and Kinky Movement fan, this EP really does it for me.

The first cut "Behind Ya Back" delivers out of the gate with some nice n chunky beats. Then enter the smooth n low acidy sounding bass line. The gripping vocal steam rolls over this groove with added blips n clips for added affect. From that description this track may sound like a tech bomb, but it actually has a really smooth deep n gritty groove that will slide nicely into just about any set.

One of my picks on the EP is "Step Into The Soulspace". Continuing with the chunky beats, this tune delivers early with nice hip hop vocal snips and a nice deep thump n bump bass line. Next on the fader slides in a catchy little bingbeong key lick that keeps the mood up. This tune is a kicker and needs no crutch. Moving on we get hit with title track "Table Magic". This is a moody disco number with mad flavorings. It builds all throughout the first few minutes of the track and just when you think it's going South, it breaks North for a space funk disco freak out. Very nice production on this tune no doubt.

To grind out the Table Magic EP is another spacey disco jam that sounds as if disco met Frankenstein's monster, did a bunch of K in the parking lot, then rolled up to the club and invented a new type of jig. A fantastically produced soundscape of a track with lots of great elements all pieced together just right to please Grandma's quilt making club. Over all I give this EP a 9 out of 10. It would have had a 10 out of 10 but my dog didn't like the bass line on the last tune so much.
