Farris Wheel Recordings

Chicago House Music legend Gene Farris has been killing it with his Farris Wheel imprint, rocking relentless jams all year long. To continue his reign of fire, he ignites a huge A list remix release explosion of his tune "Back & Forth". Remixers on this release include: Jason Hodges, Mark Farina, DJ Frique, Wally Callerio, Broadway & Wilson, 1200 Warriors, Chuck Love, and Gene himself. Due to space restrictions I am only going to review the ones that I think really stand out on the release.

As always, Toronto's bluejay Jason Hodges kills it with his in your face slammin beats and bumpin bass lines. If you know Hodges, then you know his remix abilities which never fail. So he gives it the necessary oomph with his straight up jackin' jam of a remix. Chicago's Broadway & Wilson give this tune a down and dirty remix treatment from the mean streets. Their remix just slams with a nasty bass line that works it and works it good. 1200 Warriors step up with the funk on their mix. There are mad funky clavi and synths all over this piece which make nice on the funk bass line. When the vocal comes in it just gets moving and grooving like no ones business.

To smooth things over and keep the neighbors from calling the cops, Chuck Love steps up and delivers a beautiful and smoothly crafted deep mix. The lush chords in this mix flow oh-so-nicely with the eerily catchy muted trumpet lick. Chuck never disappoints with his multitude of musical ability.

In general, I usually get turned off by huge remix packages as they are often lacking in quality and making up for it with quantity. This release is not the case. Everyone turned it out for Gene on this one and has made his Farris Wheel slate one to watch.
