I wasn't terribly sure what to make of this from the start, except that I saw Karizma's name on the remix pack and it's worth dipping a toe in for that reason alone. His mixes have become a huge hit for BBE, breathing new life into the original Georg Levin album.

The Original Mix reminds me of something I wrote about Andy Caldwell's last album. There were some great songs on there - I mean things that you listen to for a minute, then listen to again, and say, "Hey, that's objectively a great song." - but it's not exactly designed or intended for the Chicago club experience. But this is a remix package, and the point here is to get talented people to spread their magic dust over things like that and make them work.

Georg's own mixes are a little strange - vaguely ravey in the builds which honestly aren't that exhilerating in the way that a build should be. Karizma on the other hand digs with both hands and finds some retro grooves for his Kaytronic Dub Mix. It actually reminds me a bit of something from JDub in the way this high vocal is lain bare over beats and riffs so thick it's like they're cut from solid stone. Karizma's vocal mix is really a whole new sound for him, with muted downtempo beats and squeezebox keys. Included as a bonus, Muzikman takes on two edits of Levin's "The Better Life". When people say "there's something for everyone on here," they're usually talking about some genre-bending remix work, but in this case there really and truly is.
