Groove Junkies + Andy Caldwell ft. Alexander Sky :: "I Believe in Dreams"
Review by Terry Matthew | Published February 2007 | Review Archives
This is an interesting collaboration, considering the varied background of the three parties involved. The Groove Junkies have a more soulful sound than I've heard from Caldwell in his original productions, but the two blend their individual strengths well on "I Believe in Dreams". Alexander Sky, meanwhile, is a dynamic frontman in the blue-eyed soul/bohemian Jamiroquai vein able to hit more high notes than many female House vocalists. The original "AC vs. GJ" mix combines the uptempo House sound of GJ with Caldwell's signature electro sound. Caldwell's Deep Mix pushes down the tempo, but the GJ 808 Alternate Mix is the one that really sizzles. You get the straight handclap and even a couple of orchestra hits, and the retro elements really work well with the vocal. Sky's voice is popping on all of the mixes, and is definitely one of the most intriguing I've heard in a while.
