Hail to the new chieftains of refreshing bass in House Music in Giom and Joshua Heath! This is one of the sickest records I've heard on Lost My Dog to date. To say I enjoyed this would be understatement of the year.
The title track for the Connection Lost EP combines slap bass, deep rumbling sub bass and the higher electro type bass sounds all into one fonkay numba. These guys just get it. They can please the heads but they have immense crossover appeal - so much so my wife specifically picks out a different Giom remix on LMD and says "I like this one, I like the bass." Where dubstep just overdoes it, leave it to a pair of seasoned house producers to show what restraint sounds like using some of the same elements.
"Mister Marvellous" brings more funky bass along with some slick rolling percussion. The strings give it that classic build, but overall this one's just a smooth funky vibing track. The breakdowns are phenomenal and I seriously can't stop listening to this! The vocal work for me sends it over the top - gonna be burnin' up the charts in no time and will easily be one of my top picks for the year.
"Techno Idiots" is more uptempo tech house. If "Marvellous" brought less of the electro and more of the slap bass, this one does the ol' swaparoo. Ticking electro with slivers of slap bass, spacey keys and airy vocal samples round out this whole EP very nicely.
