+ Hott 22 ft. Bonnie Bailey :: "No Promises"
:: Gossip Records
This is probably one of the strangest reviews I'll ever have to write. This isn't a bad track. In fact, it's got a great sound. I'd even say it's as good as Hott 22's greatest mini-opus, 2006's "I Feel Love". It should be, because the melody for "No Promises" is lifted note for note from it. It's not unusual to recycle your own material, but "I Feel Love" only came out two years ago, and this is really just a new vocal over the exact same music (and truth be told, I liked the vocal on "I Feel Love" better). It's undoubtedly intentional, though I can't grasp exactly why someone would bother - "I Feel Love" was a pretty popular tune. The Eric Kupper mix is a little too pop for my taste, but has its moments as well. You just seriously have to ask yourself if you're better off buying this track or "I Feel Love", which might be played out after two years on the street but is probably overall a better tune.
