Janet Jackson :: "Rock With U" (David Storm Ruffin Remix)
>>Unreleased/CDR

The last bit of Janet that I liked began with the words "Like a moth to a flame..." and her music's been like a cross to a vampire for me since then. That might be sacrilegious to some R&B fans, but I don't care: like the Jacksons trading faces every summer, they often adopt and shed so many different personas and disposable pop styles in their careers that the authenticity has been steamed out of their music. I can't compare this to the original release as I've avoided it like sunlight and holy water, but if there's anything of the original left in David Storm Ruffin's sweet and soulful remix, I may have to give Janet's new record a fair chance. It's very mid-tempo and loungey, which works well with the heavily layered and synthesized vocal.
