+ Jay West: Into the Land of Funk EP
:: Drop Music
From Jay West and Drop Music comes this energy-packed 3 song EP that will leave blisters on your feet. Jay plays around a lot with samples - up to a dozen per song, it sounds like - crafting new sounds and bending them into grooves that are scrumptuous. "Easy Comes" uses a xylophone for the melody, with a simple lil riff that makes the track really cook. "Turn Ya On" is outstanding and full of dancefloor energy. The groove is positively addictive, with a voice over warning not to "trade the treasure for an empty box". I'm not sure what the message is there, but it works. The final track, "It's Boogie Time" uses a few jazz and funk snippets to amazing effect.
