:: Jellybean Soul
The rise of digital music has killed a few things I love about LPs (try to match the hot track in your book these days with album art, for instance), but one of the cool things I've noticed is that a lot of producers at the top of their game are becoming more experimental with their sound, whether to try to capture an audience outside of dance music or as a matter of personal expression. Case in point is Jellybean and Marlon D.'s "Latina": take the names off the label, and I think you'd need 20 guesses to name who made it. Some of the mixes might be an Afro-Latin overload for some dancefloors, but it's definitely a shot out of left field. All of the mixes (each of which highlight a different instrument) are heavy on the salsa and son cubano - Jellybean's "Ain't Nuthin' But a House Party Mix" is straight out of the Buena Vista Social Club.
