+ Johnny Fiasco: Nectar Volume 2
:: Agave
My favorite remixer and DJ of the moment, Johnny Fiasco, is back with a fierce mix CD on Agave that's honestly the best I've heard this summer. It was last September that I first got Johnny's mix on OM: Winter Sessions, so this is becoming something of a tradition. It starts with Rhythm Plate's "Inside Me" featuring Astral, a hot Deep House track released in July to rave reviews. (Incidentally, Rhythm Plate have one of the greatest House Music artist websites of all time at rhythmplate.com, on which they give thanks to Timothy Regisford of the "well-known charity called Shelter" for sampling 16 bars of one of their tracks on a bootleg). This is the first of at least a dozen top-flight songs on this mix and leads into a funky jazz medley, with "As Darkness Falls (Giom Mix)" from Vernon & Dacosta featuring Apple Rochez, Josh One's funked up homage to scat "Afterhours" and Leon Louder's "Do It Again". There's also some hometown love with The Sound Republic's "Funkyard Junk" (awesome tune) and Johnny's own "Reflex". Other highlights include "Sound Bomber" by Jason Merle and the maestro Ian Pooley's "What's Your Number (Jazzanova Renumber)".
