The gist behind Josh Wink's 2009 album When a Banana Was Just a Banana is that there was a time when music was just music, when one didn't listen to try to nail down a genre before letting oneself get submerged in a tune, or patronize one digital download site over another because the wares at one were "more soulful" or "more electronic" than its peers; when maybe it was generally understood if not universally accepted that the scene was small and underground and there really wasn't much point in hurling thunderbolts at the non-believers for their lack of purity.

To drive home the point even further, Wink opened up Banana to his producer pals, asking them which track they wanted to remix and letting them go. The results are a wild slab of awesome that I wasn't buckled in for. Jimpster leads off with his mix of "Jus Right", which has as its goal to take a listener on a one-hour trip smashed down to a tight 9:41. The initial vocal FX scared the crap out of me but by the time this thing fell into a groove I was seriously in lust. I defy anyone to make heavier beats than Jimpster in the context of a song that the lovely people can still dance to. I was positively exhausted after that but there were still remixes from Radio Slave and Nic Fanciulli to go (note: my promo copy didn't have Sneak's remix or a few others. Any sins of omission are unintentional.)

Let's be honest: most people these days are going to buy 1 or 2 tracks they like and pass on the rest, but if you do feel the need for an extended play, this is a wonderful place to start.
