+ Juan Atkins + Kimyon ft. Tricia: "Work For Money"
:: All About
This is the debut release on the label All About run by Luis Baro, former program director for XM Radio's The Move. Techno pioneer Juan Atkins collaborates with Kimyon on the original mix which is a dark techy piece featuring the lovely vocals of Tricia. Unfortunately it sounds as if these vocals weren't intended for this song. Luis Baro offers his own attempt at the song with some Disco-esque drums, flanged effects, pads and a new bassline with snippets of the vocals scattered throughout to give the release more of a funky feel. Lars Behrenroth also adds a nice touch of his own with an atmospheric intro and what's really an all around enjoyable soothing version. My pick of the bunch though is Dimitri Max's Mind Dub. The bassline is killer, the pads are smooth and the vocal parts sit on top perfectly. Finally there's an Alexi Delano version if you're more into the minimal thing. I see a lot of big names and big things happening for this label in the coming year.
