Let this be a lesson to labels: it pays to keep Franck Roger on your promo list. After the vinyl had been moulded on this Deep House track from Swedish producer Joel Alter, Bass Culture founder D'Julz received an unsolicited offer for a remix from Roger that has turned up as a digital exclusive. It makes this release.
The original mix is more or less a frame for a spoken word intro and restrained chorus from Eric D. Clark. DJ Qu's remix plunges into extremely deep territory, but I can't really fathom how this would work on its own. Which brings us to Franck Roger's timely remix. The original had all of the elements of the classic Franck Roger sound already present, including those short vocal bursts and the extremely sparse ambient sound. Following Antoine de St-Exupery's maxim that perfection comes not when there is nothing left to add but when there's nothing else to take away, Roger's minimal approach works extremely well here. With a little drum shuffle and maniac keys that almost sound like The Exorcist played at 78rpm, Roger builds the intensity flawlessly. For fans of dark, somewhat spooky tech and deeper stuff, you cannot go wrong.
