+ Karu: Enter Part 1 EP
:: Smooth Agent Records
Karu is a producer based out of Ohio. From what I've been able to tell of his work (including the three songs on this EP), he brings a strong affinity for techier side of dance music without foregoing the soulfulness of House. "Perfect Love" shows some of the influence of the Detroit sound, with a few simple vocal loops, a straight-ahead beat and some electronic sounds and keys holding the groove together. "Desire", as the name might indicate, pushes his distinctive sound further into the terrain of the deep House world. I'm not sure who the vocalist is but the passion of her delivery is really evident here and makes this a really strong track. It gets funkier than "Perfect Love" but keeps that introspective sound. There's some really pretty picks on an accoustic guitar here too. "A Feeling Deep Inside" is my favorite track of the three with a more uplifting groove and a gorgeous funky bassline. Smooth Agent, to me at least, maintains a steady consistency of quality on their releases and this one is no exception.
