I get my giggles in strange places. The latest subject of mirth is the strange convergence between ultra-tribal Deep House and Techno. These are two lines at slight angles that will eventually intersect, and it sounds like that's what is happening now. The funny part, of course, is that some Deep and Techno heads have a reputation for being absolute purists that would immediately flip the jacket if they come across something outside of their comfort zone, which this track very well may be. Layo and Bushwacka! turn up the Afro-Latin tribal beats on this one - without knowing any better, you might think this is cutting edge South African House instead of two guys in the UK. The bouncy Atari 2600 synth line is like if some sensible girl married a 303 and polished off the edges: it might not work for everything but it fits right into a groove that makes you remember why a perfect beat is based around a heartbeat. The Mirko Loko remix is some kind of blurry, jittery, abstract, percussion-heavy sugar rush that never really seems to get out of 2nd gear; the original mix does the duty.
