Little Louie Vega: Mix the Vibe: For the Love of King Street EP
Review by Sean Smith | Published February 2007 | Review Archives
This is a great package from Louie Vega. The first track is an unreleased mix by Mr. V for Japanese singer Mayu called "Stretch My Arm". This is a good late night dub that works nicely. My only pet peeve about this is that the reparative vocals gets used rather heavily during over the whole track. The music is tight and the groove builds at a nice pace. One latin or disco element that is used here that you rarely hear in House these days is a whistle. This is the same type of whistle a coach or gym teacher would wear around their neck, used to good effect.
Those who may have missed Stephanie Cooke's 2001 "Here with my Best Friend" can get Louie's main mix here. This is a very good piece of late night vocal deep house at its best. To top out the set we have "It's The Music" by Bassmental feat. Charles McDougal. This is a 1994 classic Kerri Chandler production with his signature heavy bass and atmospheric keys. This is a track that I missed out on back then, so I am glad to get it on this EP. For a song that was produced in '94, it still holds up with the best of them in 2007. All in all this is great compilation that is packed with heat.
