+ Manuel Sahagun: Memory Lane EP
:: Candy Music
The twentieth release from Candy is a scorcher. Manuel Sahagun (hailing, like label boss Jay West, from Argentina) strips down the funk formula on "Ride My Carpet", with minimal beats and a serpentine groove that slithers around a lil Latin swing. The Mighty Dub Rework has some technically brilliant FX - it sounds halfway like keys, passed through a vocoder, passed through Mr. Spock's tricorder. This one can easily cross over to a techy set, even without being especially bloopy. "Take Out" on the other hand is a techno OD with swirling keys over fat beats and a slow and sweaty build. This is not for fans of vocal House (there are just a few short vox samples) but could and should be rocked in sets worldwide.
