Pardon me if I go beyond the usual review here but, a bit o' history is required. The secrets to this stunner of a REAL INSTRUMENT/REAL VOCALIST-based song are Gene Leone & Michele McCain. Gene is the Philly producer, remixer, musician and engineer that has added his magic to music since the '70s with France Joli, Fat Larry's Band, Vince Montana Jr., the classic "Double Dutch Bus", and numerous Prelude label classics! Michele is a NYC-bred, Spain-living diva of stage, TV, and music (did an event with James Brown!) Together, along with Slovenia-based DJ Benjamin (BKR), they have delivered all they can with "All I Can Do". To answer Josh Milan's question in 5 Magazine's July issue, "Does anyone still use real instruments?" YES - Gene Leone, playing vintage Gretsch drums, live percussion, a Hammond B3, guitar and brass and wood hand percussion!
Now to the song. Michele's throaty, upfront vocals shine on all of the (get ready...) 20 mixes - a new record! Several really shine for me. John Mateo's NYC Deep Mix lends homage to the Peech Boys' classic, "Don't Make Me Wait", with a familiar chord and a techy bass line. The BSC (Brazilian Soul Crew) Vocal Mix - BKR Club Edit gets funky with the drums along with some cool synths. The track was first played to huge response on Andy Ward's Vocal Booth show and so Andy had to give it a remix providing the vocals some extra love. Geno has a cornucopia of mixes that I really enjoy but his Baby Soul Mix, with echoed vocals riding along in a beautiful musical journey is pure soul. Finally, I learned about bandcamp.com through this release - a great free site for artists to post, share, and sell... check it out because that's where you'll find this hit.
