:: Defected
Now there's no excuse to bootleg Mike Dunn's underground classic "God Made Me Phunky". Defected has been digging through the back crates a lot lately and re-releasing some of the classics, and this one is absolutely packed with top remixes. Harry "Choo Choo" Romero's remix strips down the original with the vocal way up front. Groove Assassins' remix is the most true to the original with that simple, irresistible piano riff receding slightly into the background. Aaron Ross and Alix Alvarez bring an almost entirely new and different beat to their mix - hyper-funky, and the heavy echo on the vocal here and in a few of the other mixes just add to the "from the pulpit" feel. None of this should distract one from the original mix, which is cleaner than I've ever heard on CD, digital or wax.
