This year I got hip to the Untitled Music podcast run by Richie Hartness from New Zealand - a two hour mix of fantastic deep and tech house every week. I've recently thrown my hat into the podcast ring, and now that I have I can't help but wonder how he finds time do everything that he does. Oh and now he's launching the Untitled Music label on top of that to continue the surge of his wonderful brand.
Marvin Zeyss garnered the #2 spot on Richie's "Hottest New Deep House Talent" list earlier this year, just behind Maya Jane Coles. If you've listened to the podcast before you will not be surprised in the least when you hear this record - tt fits the show's sound to a T. The thing I love most about this deep tech sound spreading like wildfire is that a lot of it is just really beautiful, and Marvin's work here is no exception.
The shining light of "In My Arms" is the multilayered keys and synthesizers echoing and swirling throughout, supported by a heavy and deep bass and kick drum framework. This is absolutely a track you can get lost in. Giom's remix is just a perfect blend of mellow deepness but it still has that get up factor thanks to his work with the bassline and the added cowbell. You read that correctly. Cowbell. My first reaction on listening was how great of a fit it would be for earlier sets and what a warm welcome it would be for someone just stepping into the club.
"Between Your Legs" has a little more pep to it but sadly no sexy female vocal to match the title. It has a great bassline, a slow build and is an asset to any set - especially when you're ready to start picking up the pace. Rounding out the package is a remix from Kev Obrien and Chris Luzz, two dudes from New York City. It has a much different sound, bringing it back to a more garage feel but interesting and clever for sure.
If you're into deep tech and you're not already paying attention to Untitled Music, hop on board as soon as you possibly can! Richie will keep you up on the hottest new stuff every week as well as continue to provide great content on his blog. Future releases on UM records will include Deep Spelle, Halo, David Alvarado and many more.
