Diner City Sound

/

This irresistible EP of slow disco edits comes to us from Matthew Kyle - aka MK, aka NoRequests - a big 12" vinyl-only debut from Diner City Sound that, oddly enough, became a breakout hit on SoundCloud. "Honey Sugar" leads it off and has become an underground smash, with stronger drums than traditional disco but otherwise staying deep in the pocket.

"I Want Marvin" manipulates the original so much that it really is as much of an original composition as an edit. "My Love Don't Come Easy" is the kind of track that makes you understand the roots of where Nu Disco comes from - that slow, grinding, sensual bass just slathered with whispy brass all over. The Jean Carne track has been edited multiple times but this is one of the rare occasions when an edit supplants any previous recollection of the original.

All four tracks here are strong - and I mean strong with italics. You'd expect most producers to break up a solid package like this over multiple releases - but then you'd understand why people are so attracted to this release. It's so tight you couldn't slide a piece of paper between the cuts.
