+ Paul Johnson: "Get Get Down" (Laidback Luke 2008 Remix)
:: Defected
It's not like anyone missed Paul Johnson's monster hit "Get Get Down" the first time around. That familiarity makes releasing a remix in 2008 - particularly one single, solitary edit without piling on a bunch of big name remixers - quite a leap of faith. But Laidback Luke, a Dutch DJ and producer as well known in European House Music as in the worldwide turntablism movement, rises to the challenge with a stunning track. I don't know that the world fully recovered from the force of "Get Get Down" the first time around, but Laidback Luke somehow packed even more volcanic power into this one. Paul's vocal is treated almost like an accapella to lead into that irresistable riff. It's dressed up with a ton of filters and FX, but a beat is a beat and a hook is a hook and this one still is the ultimate peak hour slammer.
