Remember the name Peckos. Sure, it's hard to forget, but you should remember it for an entirely different reason than it sounds like the alias of a crazed Cypriot pirate. Peckos has been doing some wonderful Deep House work but it's been released largely on smaller labels. That's fine and undergroundy - rock on, Peckos - except that many fledgling digital labels have a reputation for being highly uneven in the quality of their releases. Throw a bomb, throw a brick - they seem to throw anything out there at all to try to make a splash, and much of it sucks.
Chicago rivethead Angel Alanis has bagged him for the latest on his Housier Home Audio label and being overlooked shouldn't be a problem for Peckos much longer. The original mix has that kind of percussion shuffle you know from things like DJ Gregory's "Paris/Luanda" but pay attention to that alternating, moody bass and the tasteful use of FX and additional drums. The whole track is gorgeous, thick and lustrous, and this and "Kid No" both sound like throwbacks to Prescription. The Dub of "Old Boy" in some way turns this slab of Deep House into something that would work in a Jackin' House set. "Swallow" is exclusive to the vinyl release and has a kind of sinister Techno sound that I didn't know Peckos dabbled in.
