I don't think you can ever go wrong using humor and this EP cracks me up! Precious Roy is one of a few aliases belonging to Matt Inconiglios. He also goes by ATOM, Arthur Pfund and Matt Inc. The humor really is just icing on the cake of some fabulously constructed jazzy, glitchy, swingy house. The Pyschosis Swing EP brings me back to the first time I ever heard Jacob London, Akufen or even Coldcut. I'm always daunted by the idea of how insanely tedious, difficult and insane it has to be to take so many small pieces of sound and mesh them all into one cohesive piece of music.
"Welcome Snacks" rocks some ragtime piano, standup bass, xylophone and roughly a bazillion bleeps and bloops. I have to tell you that nothing annoys me more than tracks that build up or break down and then fail to deliver on the other end. This is not one of those tracks. The banter between Tim Meadows and John C. Reilly from Walk Hard about smoking reefer is gold by itself, but the measures that follow are irresistible!
"Loop Be DooBoo" is a little crazier and takes the glitch sound and just shoves it in your face. This is a very bouncy number utilizing swing horns, boings that sound like they came from Sonic the Hedgehog, and an almost bizarre sample of "Would you like some beats? I'd LOVE some beats!" Get a glass of water handy before you listen to this EP because it's a workout. ĘThere's just so much going on but that's what makes this release so stinkin' great!
