One of the worst things to happen when any new scene gets discovered is that outsiders with half the story start writing the script. That's happening now with the growing wave of South African House Music, with music journalists (especially from England) dubbing certain folks "godfathers" and setting a place at the table for everyone else. In fact, there's just a ton of terrific music being produced, and hardly a day goes by when I don't discover something new from someone I had never heard of before. So it is with this single by silky smooth vocalist Relo, produced by DJ Kent and Moks. I'd never heard of any of these cats prior to a week ago, but after gorging myself on MP3s I'm feeling like I know their work by heart. This is classic soulful Deep House: a sweet, laid back tune with very subtle but ingenious percussion and bass pushed back in the mix in the style that many have tried but few have mastered. This is set to be released on Relo's forthcoming album next month, which we'll surely have more info on before you know it.
+ Where Can I Find It?
No clue, but here's an interview with the songstress. -tm
