+ 6pod9: "Aire"
:: Stilnovo Music
If you're old enough to remember when Techno was played in House sets and vice versa - the era when it was just "dance" and before journalists had invented the word "electronica" to make something fun sound snooty - you probably remember ambient. It was tripped out nodding music that could be extremely beautiful but hardly sociable. I'm getting the same vibe off many so-called "Deep Tech" tracks today (please, for the love of God, stop with the tags!) Solidly instrumental, with the kind of sweeping key effects and reverse hats that characterized some of that music, it's a little more up-tempo but seems very difficult for a club environment.

This track, "Aire", is exactly the sort of tune that I'm talking about. It's extremely mental, beautiful but except as filler between two cracklers, I can't imagine an audience really getting into this on the dancefloor. I know people are on the lookout for bad reviews, but this isn't one. I'm just finding that a lot of new productions are following this template, but I strongly feel the kind of music they're making is cool to listen to just about anywhere except for a nightclub.
