Hey, Chicago House kids, this one's for you! Released from New Zealand's HuHu, these three tracks are a tribute of sorts to Ron Hardy and the Music Box. All three are totally jackin' and a mish-mash of well-placed phrases that just fit perfectly: "House. We're on Michigan and Wacker. House." The High Maintenance Remix is the craziest - the swirls and horns (plus salutes of "Chicago!") pulled me in, even though it's a bit too much in spots for my personal tastes (which lean toward the soulful side). Moving on, it's a tough choice between the Jamie D Remix, which has wonderfully noticeable "pops" - like a 7th-grade boy making weird mouth noises when he should be finishing his math worksheet - and the Dirwood Remix, which made my ears notice the higher-pitched riffs that drop into what almost sounds like a clarinet trill (but not quite). Whichever you choose, this EP has the funk and the history to make the kids get down!
