:: Grooveshop Recordings
Justin Critchlow (aka The Sound Diggers) has been busy this year working overtime pushing his label Grooveshop Recordings. This new release features a few nice selections from The Sound Diggers project backburner that were slated to drop on other labels, but were called back home for good reason. The Groove To Me EP is a nice 3-tracker that blends blues, funk, and soul into solid House grooves. My pick of the litter is "I've Been Down" which is a super mellow mover working on a blues riff that really grabs the money. The bluesy vocal breakdown in the tune is the peak which then beats back into the deep low down'n'blue groove. "Excuse Me" is a funk Rhodes piano jam aimed right at the dancefloor. Remember that time you tried to push your way through a packed dancefloor in a jack frenzy? This tune will take you right back there and remind you how many times you got your feet smashed. To round out the EP is "Black Magic". The tune has a nice upbeat summer vibe complete with dreamy Rhodes, melodic guitar, and a rhythmic vocal. The bassline pushes the funk from underneath the surface and is complimented by some funky horn stabs to keep pushing up. Overall, I am glad that this EP came back home and was able to see that light of day. The grooves are perfect for the upcoming spring and summer vibes we will all be looking forward to in the coming months.
