Scott Diaz: Beg Steal and Borrow EP

I hadn't heard much of Scott Diaz before this month, but after reading Lydia's review of one of his earlier EPs in August, I felt compelled to open this one up. Holy crap, where has this sound been all my life! A warm and welcoming sound emanates from all three cuts here, and I can guarantee some of this has already made it into my rotation as of this writing.

"Dream of You" is a fun bit, with a chunk-a-funk bass line coupled with friendly synth patterns and a wide but very appropriately used array of vocal cuts and Disco sounds. While I usually write my reviews on the couch, my girlfriend caught me dancing while sitting down to this one.

"Let's Get Together" continues the fun vibe, bringing in some quick guitar and piano samples and a nicely cut-up vocal riff that reminds me of Todd Edwards and Treasure Fingers at the same time. This has a much smoother backdrop, and could find a home in any Disco-related set you can think of. Rounding out the release, "Ya Don't Stop" is the jackin'est of the bunch and brings a higher energy beat to the table with subtle key-based chords in the bassline. Vocal bits are cut up and laid over one another like it was just meant to be, and give off a cool party vibe. It would appear that I have another artist's back-catalog to rummage through, because I can't leave it alone... I need MORE of this in my life.
