Trizonna McClendon :: "Sunshine + Lemonade" (inblueblackness rmx)
Review by Terry Matthew | Published December 2007 | Review Archives
The dancefloor remix of this soulkissed neo-soul track is likely to find an appreciative audience when it makes the rounds over the next few frigid months. DJ Quad and Joe Glover are two of the unsung heroes among Chicago producers and their edit of track shows why. The original bends without the remixers forcing the issue: it's simply a mid-tempo track with an irresistibly cute vocal, innocent and sweet, and Joe and Quad let the song stand for itself. And what I really like is that they didn't hear the Afro-Caribbean overtones of the original mix and drown the song with an overload of bongos and Jobimesque acoustic instruments. I love Brazilian music as much as the next cat, but not every track really needs a guitar and bongos, does it? Instead, Quad and Joe give us a mid-tempo track that is laid back without being sleepy. Brilliantly done.
