House and soul heavyweights Eric Kupper, Quentin Harris, Dajae and N'Dea Davenport lend a hand in this long-player from Baltimore-based performer, producer and DJ Ultra Nat&eacuate;. Some of this falls on the side of the more experimental, which to be honest is a daring move from a singer that could just as easily take a check for studio work and be done with it.
For the Househeads, your delight is right smack dab in the middle of the album. "Scandal" - Ultra's debut single produced by the Basement Boys circa 1989-1990 and maybe the song most closely identified with her - is given the redux treatment. A surprise is a cover of the Pointer Sisters' "Automatic" - it's a little too circuity for my taste, but the hook is as addictive now as it was in the 1980s, and I could see this thing used as a turntable cut if a more soulful remix doesn't come out through official channels. "Slow Grind" is a funky little tune I like a lot. It has the feel of Brand New Heavies meets Dewdrops in the Garden-era Deee-lite. I don't need liner notes to recognize Dajae on "Getaway," a funky collaboration with Philly International-inspired grooves. "Feel Love" has a sexy Deep House vibe - nothing too high, nothing too low - just right.
